The ROCK 3.0: Progress Report 08.12.14 - Track Realignment

Track crews reported to LaSalle today to start working on the track realignment just west of Westclox.  The two mainline/yard tracks subroadbed was installed.  The rails that went straight into the wall were pried up and realigned parallel to the wall.

Pay no attention to the scrap track to the right.

A view of the hinge that holds the permanent leg.

An overall view of the scene.

  1. I know you've built out the staging yard already but I was wondering how wide that door entrance was to the layout room compared to the length of the staging yard. I'd almost think a hinge with a caster on that leg and "folding" it back into the layout room might be easier, assuming it's not too wide for the entranceway.

    1. The entrance into the layout room is 36". The drop down staging board is 48" long. The staging track folds back down adjacent to the layout with the leg going behind the Matchbox car cabinet.

    2. Ok. Was trying to figure out a way you wouldn't have to remove trains from the staging box to make it easier.

    3. The family would still need access to the layout room as it is a shared craft/tv room for the kids as well. Whenever not in use, I'll just pull the trains out onto the mainline or pull up behind Ottawa Yard. It wont' be a big inconvenience.
