The ROCK 1.0 - Paint Preparation

Tonight, Carrie helped me patch all the holes in the walls of the layout room.  I would estimate somewhere around 200+.  Tomorrow, we paint!

I have been reviewing in great detail the terrain, scenery and details of Ottawa Yard on Bing Maps.  Some things surely changed and I will have to use my imagination....others not so much.  I won't be able to model all scenes as prototypically as I want due to space limitations, but I will definitely try to capture the feel of the ROCK.

The ROCK 1.0 - Cleanup

This evening, I worked for what seemed like a few hours, but I believe it was just an hour.  I cleaned up the room, sorted and/or disposed of stuff off my workbench, removed the remaining pictures and such from the wall, moved everything to the center of the room and vacuumed.

Now, ready for spackling.  Whew!  That was a workout tonight!

To the left, former Silvis Yard, Blue Island and Chicago Yard.

Former LaSalle, Utica sites.

Former Bureau Junction and Ottawa

The ROCK 1.0 - The Layout is Officially Gone!

With one last push this evening, I managed to pull the last screw from the layout.  The Rock Island: Illinois Division is officially put to rest.  The benchwork is all down, but not removed from the layout room yet.  It's progress to get it all down though.  Whew!  What a chore!

Now, for the clean up and preparation for paint in the room.  We're close to turning the tide from destruction to construction!  Wahoo!!

The ROCK 1.0 - The Book Arrived!!!!

With much anticipation, the Rock Island: Illinois Division book arrived today!!  I can't say enough about the quality of this Apple book!  I created it using iPhoto.  I had created one in the past for my friend Larry when his layout was torn down and was blown away by the quality then.  Now, that it's my book, my railroad.....I'm speechless.

Here are some photos of the book.

The ROCK 1.0 - Destruction Continues 07.08.13

It's been hard to find time to work on the layout lately.  Summer is tough as it's chock full of activities.  I did get 10 minutes in the room.  I took out the benchwork along the back wall which includes the downtown area of Ottawa, Joliet interlocking and West Blue Island.  I also removed the LED light canopies over these areas plus the assembly over Utica.

I only have the benchwork along the left wall remaining.  It's both yards and Blue Island.

Slowly, but surely, I'm getting there.

From what my daughter reported, the trash man must love me.  He had to dump the can twice today as some stuff fell out.  Ooops.

The ROCK 1.0 - Destruction Continues 07.06 - 07.07.13

Ottawa Yard has been completely removed.  All the LED lights have been removed and preserved safely.

Removed a bunch of trash from the room.  Destruction will continue this week as time permits.
