Crew Instructions (continued)

I completed writing the crew instructions for the remaining locals.  The most complex was the Ottawa Local/Yardmaster job.  It's a beast!

#113 Joliet Local
You’re working the Joliet local which serves the industries in Joliet, IL.  Traffic for the local industry is dropped off / picked up by the IL Shorts Road locals.  Your motive power and caboose will be parked at the station or in the industrial area.  You will find the cars to switch on one of the two storage tracks in town.  Obtain permission from the dispatcher to work the necessary tracks avoiding delays to scheduled trains.

You need to work the following industries:
American Can Company
American Service Company
Federal Paper Board
Joliet Grain Co.

Any car cards turned around with a paper clip attached indicates that they are being held for loading/unloading and will be worked next session.

When you have completed your work, set off Chicago cars on the Main 2 Storage Track.  Any cars with destinations of Ottawa or Silvis, please leave on the Main 1 Storage Track (space permitting).  Return your locomotive to its original location.

* Main (or Main 1) is always the station track

#118 LaSalle Local
You’re working the LaSalle Local which serves industries from Peru to Utica, IL.  You will find your train in the LaSalle Storage Track.  Obtain permission from the dispatcher to work the necessary tracks avoiding delays to scheduled trains.

During the course of your work, you will need to pick up and take any traffic destined for Chicago or Ottawa to Ottawa Yard.  Work with the Ottawa Yardmaster to set off your cars and pick up any cars marked 118 LaSalle Local.  Switch this traffic on your return trip to LaSalle.

You need to work the following industries:
Belrose Silica
Peru Power & Water Plant
Philadelphia Quartz
Westclox

When you have completed your work, you will terminate your train and any Silvis* bound traffic on the LaSalle Storage track.  Please ensure the Silvis traffic is easily accessible for a westbound freight.

* all Chicago or Ottawa traffic should have been taken to Ottawa

#217 Ottawa Local
You’re working as Ottawa Yardmaster, Ottawa Local crew and Burlington Northern Local crew which serves the Ottawa area.  Obtain permission from the dispatch to work the necessary tracks avoiding delays to scheduled trains.

Yardmaster Duties
You are responsible for classifying the cars in Ottawa yard as follow:
- Chicago Traffic
- Ottawa Local Traffic
- Silvis Traffic
- LaSalle Local Traffic
- BN Interchange Traffic

Trains #110 / #111 Illinois Shorts, #118 LaSalle Local and the BN Local will work at your yard.  Please direct crews to make proper set offs, pick-ups.  In regards to Train #110 to Silvis, you will be responsible for calling the LaSalle station operator to determine if they have capacity for #110's set off.

Ottawa Local Duties
You need to work the following industries:
Bader Ag Inc
Libbey-Owens Ford Company
Ottawa Silica Company

Burlington Northern Local Duties
During the course of your work, at some point, bring in the BN local into town obtaining proper permission from the dispatcher.   The BN local works only the Ottawa Silica Company.  The Local will then request permission from the yardmaster to set off and pickup cars marked Ottawa – BN Interchange.  When work is complete, return the local to the Burlington Northern tracks.

* if you are unable to complete your work by 3:00pm, a second shift crew will be called
