Pre-Op Session Countdown 03.19.13

This morning I continued to clean wheels and test run the locomotives.  After testing, I lined the locomotives up on the mainline until they can be moved to their proper location.

With such a rare event for all the active power to be out on display, the company photographer and local railfan Steven Geisler were out photographing the line-up.

  1. Hi Steven,

Great work. I enjoy following your blog as it's inspirational.

I noticed you have slide switches on the layout. Is there a post on your blog that explains parts and installation details? If so, what date? If not, could you send that info to me via e-mail?

    Thank you,
    Frank Kenny

    1. Hi Frank,
      Thanks for the feedback!
I never wrote a blog post specifically on how to install. I simply use a SPDT (Single Pole, Double Throw) sub miniature slide switch. For the throw arm, there are two types of flower wire (used for shaping fake flowers at hobby/craft store (like Michael's or Hobby Lobby) that can be used for the throw arm. I drill two 1/4" holes and ream out the middle to install the switch. I have seen others simply drill a 1/2" hole and then mount with small screws. The screws I bought were from Lowes which were a little larger than you might want, but they worked ok for me.

I purchased the SPDT slide switches from Feather River Trains, but you can find them in various places. They had the best price that I could find and plenty in stock.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
      Thanks again!
      Steven
