The ROCK 3.0: Happy National Train Day

Happy National Train Day!  The family and I drove 30 minutes north to East Spencer, NC to the North Carolina Transportation Museum for the National Train Day festivities at the Ex-Southern shops.  I was able to see 611 fired up again and my new favorite loco the repainted Southern Railway SD40-2 #3170.  This loco was the secondary power on one of the N&W 611 steam excursions from Charlotte up to Asheville that my friends and I rode back in the day!  Here our some photos taken today.

The New Haven "Pine Tree State" Combo Sleeper/Parlor Car.  This car was once owned by the Piedmont Carolinas Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.  I used to work on this car with friends back in the day when I was a member.

It was a nice day to get out to see some trains.  The museum had a great turnout from what we saw this morning and nice equipment to check out.

Here's my favorite Amtrak commercial that was shown a few years back (maybe longer now that I think about it).

  1. Wow what a fab day it must have been. Great pictures.

  2. Nice collection of photos Steven. The NC museum looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Steven, thank you for sharing. Great pictures, must have been an excting event watching 611 live ?!

    1. Yes, it was! I'm hoping to chase it when it departs Spencer for Roanoke on May 30th.
